These paintings were made in response to 2020 lockdowns. During lockdown I watched the film, Bacurau, which proved a huge inspiration for these paintings. Scenes from this film were reminiscent of the eeriness and quiet experienced in the depths of lockdown. I therefore used film stills and dramatic cinematic lighting effects found in the film to convey a scene where viewers teeter somewhere between a public and private sphere, between known and unknown and between conflict and danger.
